Michael Bastian

2nd designer to be mentioned is Winner of 2011 CFDA Award for Menswear Designer of the Year, Michael Bastian, finally winning after being nominated for the past 5 years. I have always been a fan of his work, his collection was mentioned in 1 of our earliest posts; a fan who just craved for his peices but never had and still dont, have the chance to get hold of them as Singapore does not stock his pieces and I lack the financial capabilities to personally purchase them.

Nonetheless, this New York born fashion designer has braved the storms within the industry and came out tops with amazing colections after another.

Then the amazing designer collaborated with Brazil brand Havaianas to give the flip flop giant an edge in design.

Personally pefer the center 2, the 2 on the sides seems abit kiddish.

All in all, Michael Bastian definitely deserves his win this year at the CFDA and the world should have a chance to experience his work. Like in Singapore as well.

Rei Kawakubo

So starts our spotlight on designers who stood out among the crowd. We kick of the series with Rei Kawakubo, founder of world-famous brand Commes des Garcon which launched in 1973. Whose avant garde clothing designs brought the world over to fashion "in another dimension". She paved the way for future designers bold and daring designs to be accepted and worn by consumers.

Then news came that Commes des Garcon would be collaborating with H&M and the world went wild. The collection was a huge success. Which brought about a surge in the fashion industry as fahionable dressing was brought to the next level.

As far as Anna Wintour carries off the bob, I am no Azzedine Alaia but I think Rei Kawakubo carries the look much better. Ah well, the world will always crave differences and she certainly introduced the stamp of approval.

Prada FW 2011 Campaign

As the face of meswear, Prada has brought in Tobey Maguire as the face of the campaign. This I did not see coming. I suppose it's because I have not really looked at him as a fashion icon but more of Spider-man. But he musthave caught the eye of the fashion house to have landed this part. All the best!
